LEMON GINGER AND TURMERIC SHOT INGREDIENTS
Benefits of Ginger
Fresh ginger root has many medicinal properties because of the compound Gingerol. Gingerol has anti-inflammatory properties and also antioxidant properties.
Ginger may be effective in nausea relief, weight loss, joint pain relief, and can help with indigestion. Ginger may also lower blood sugar levels and improve various heart disease risk factors in people with type 2 diabetes.
Benefits of Turmeric
Turmeric is a deep, golden-orange spice that is a relative of ginger. Turmeric root is native to southern India and Indonesia. It has been used as a perfume and cooking spice for hundreds of years. It has also been used in ayurvedic medicine (ancient Indian medical system). Also other forms of traditional medicine in China and India. Turmeric’s natural compound is curcumin; which has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
“Like other colorful plant-based foods, turmeric is rich in phytonutrients that may protect the body by neutralizing free radicals (pollution, sunlight) and shielding the cells from damage. Diets rich in plant-based foods are associated with prevention of medical conditions such as cancer and heart disease.” Said Mary Eve Brown from John Hopkins Medicine. However, one challenge of turmeric is that curcumin and other active ingredients are not easily absorbed by the body, which is why combining turmeric with black pepper may help increase your body’s ability to absorb it. Turmeric can also benefit those with chronic inflammation, anxiety, muscle soreness after exercise, and can improve kidney health.
Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for centuries in natural medicine and cooking. It may have some health benefits such as aiding in weight loss, reducing bad cholesterol, lowering blood sugar levels, and reducing the severe symptoms of diabetes.
Benefits of Lemon Juice
The lemon is citrus fruit with a distinctive sour taste because it’s high concentration of citric acid. Lemons are high in vitamin C (immune-boosting vitamins), fiber, and various beneficial plant compounds. These nutrients are responsible for several health benefits. Lemons may aid in weight loss, reducing your risk of heart disease, anemia, kidney stones, digestive problems, and cancer.
Benefits of Black Pepper
One of the main substances in black pepper is called piperine. When piperine is combined with curcumin (which is in turmeric), it has been shown to increase bioavailability by 2000%.
Successful Anti-Inflammatory Juice Recipe Steps
When making the Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric/Ginger Shot the following are some of my personal preferences that you might find helpful.
Straining
After you blend fresh ingredients you may want to strain the pulp using a cheese cloth, nut milk bag if you have one, or a fine mesh strainer. Some may want to use the leftover pulp to make a ginger tea, or add it to fruit smoothies. However, to reap all the benefits from the turmeric and ginger I choose to leave the pulp in.
Sweeteners
This shot has very potent flavors. The ginger can a bit spicy; but this can be balanced by the apple cider vinegar’s tanginess. When I first started to drink this I could taste it in the back of my throat for a while, however, after drinking it day after day the initial shock wore off and I started looking forward to the health benefits each day. There are many sweeteners that you can add to help take the bite off such as, honey, maple syrup, and monk fruit. My favorite way to sweeten it is with a TRUE lemon lemonade packet which helps give a small amount of sweetness and also adds a good lemony flavor punch.
Simplify
In order to help make sure that you get your shot each day and can easily incorporate this into your daily routine. This recipe can be easily 5x’ed and placed in a mason jar in the fridge. It can last up to a week in the fridge and all you have to do is give the fresh juice a shake because the components will settle to the bottom of the jar and voilà. Another great way to simplify your routine is to put your daily energy shots in ice cube trays and and freeze them. All you have to do then is take out one cube each morning and you are ready to go.
Finding Fresh Ingredients
Another option is once the ginger and turmeric are purchased at the grocery store is to get a cutting board and chop up the spices into one inch knobs. Then use a spoon and peel off the skin of all the ginger and turmeric that you have bought. (Remember that turmeric does stain.) Add the prepared spices into a bag and place them in the freezer to pull out when you are ready to make the ginger turmeric shots. Also turmeric can be tricky to find at the grocery stores. The best places to find the spice is at a Kroger’s store or at Sprouts. When purchasing it at Kroger’s, the turmeric is able to be purchased by the pound. However, at Sprouts the turmeric is prebagged.
Things to Consider with Ginger Turmeric Shots
Ginger is safe in moderation However, in large amounts you can have, abdominal discomfort, heartburn, diarrhea, mouth and throat irritation. Ginger may decrease blood clotting and could interfere with blood thinners when used in high amounts. Best to check with a professional before ginger juice.
Helpful Tips
- Fresh turmeric root STAINS.
- With flu season coming up this is a perfect way to boost immunity for yourself in a natural way.
- Important key to remember is that turmeric powder is not as effective as fresh turmeric root because the natural compound curcumin is limited. Which means that to receive the same effect someone would need a very large amount verse a small amount with fresh turmeric.
- Adding a small amount of liquid to the blender will make the consistency of the shot easier to blend and drink. Adding filter water or coconut water would work great.
- Other fruit juice may be used such as orange juice or pineapple juice but lemon juice is preferred for one of the main ingredients.
- It is best to take the healthy shots first thing in the morning on an empty stomach to reap the most benefit.
